Barcelona Close to Re-Signing Jan Virgili, Plan Loan Move to Real Betis

Barcelona are nearing a decision to sign 19-year-old winger Jan Virgili from RCD Mallorca, and are set to immediately loan him out to Real Betis for the 2026/27 campaign.

The young attacker was a permanent departure from Barcelona last summer in search of regular first team football, and had an impressive break out season at Mallorca. Despite Balearic’s relegation from the top flight, Virgili managed to score two goals and dished out six assists in 31 appearances for the La Liga side.

Virgili’s future has since become a topic of interest, with several top-flight clubs showing interest in his services, as Mallorca have been relegated to Segunda División.

Barcelona are keen to tempt the youngster back to the club, transfer journalist Nil Solà of Cadena SER said:

“Barça are trying to finalise Jan Virgili’s signing and loan to Real Betis, but it’s not done yet, but it’s progressing nicely and it’s on the cards to happen.”

The Catalan giants are expected to use the €7.2m buyback clause that was part of last summer’s deal that saw Virgili move to Mallorca.

Strategic Move

The transfer would enable Barcelona to keep one of their brightest young prospects and guarantee that he will still have valuable senior minutes at a competitive La Liga club. The next loan spell looks like it will be at Real Betis.

If it does come to fruition, it will be a fast return to the club that has been developing Virgili, and Barcelona’s ongoing efforts to cultivate and manage their young players well.
